The week kicks off apocalyptically with this thriller about a monster that invades New York City. The story is told from the point of view of five people — armed with a hand-held video camera — who are trying to save a loved one and survive the attack. Lizzy Caplan and Jessica Lucas star.
Charlie Wilson’s War
Based on the outrageous true story of one hard-living Texas congressman, Tom Hanks stars as Charlie, the man who secretly armed the herdsman of Afghanistan after the Russian invasion of the late 70s. Julia Roberts and Phillip Seymour Hoffman play Charlie’s sidekicks/co-conspirators.
After bringing her kids to show them her childhood home, a woman (Belen Rueda) decides it would be the right place to open an orphanage for handicapped youngsters. Things soon turn horrifying when her son begins communicating with an invisible friend. Fernando Cayo and Roger Princep co-star.
Back from last week, it’s Ellen Page and Michael Cera as an equally cute and sardonic high school couple in this smash indie hit. They have to decide what do about an unexpected pregnancy (perhaps let a hopeful suburban couple — Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garner — adopt the baby).
One Missed Call
What happens when people receive voicemails from themselves in the future telling the date, time and details of their deaths? Toughie. Shannyn Sossamon and Edward Burns star in this remake of a Japanese horror hit.
AVPR: Aliens vs Predator – Requiem
The people of a sleepy little town have to figure out how to survive when the predator and the aliens square off once again to do battle right in their backyard. Steven Pasquale and Rieko Aylesworth star.
